Three years since the release of their highly commended debut album, If You Don’t Need It Let It Go, Queensland’s Laneway are back with their latest offering, Turn Your Love Up.

The album explores the duo’s more country and blues sound, mixed with heartfelt lyrics and cheerful banjo backings.

For those who have eagerly awaited new music from the pair, they will not be disappointed in the least. With the ten track album offering some truly catchy tunes from the sensational singing and songwriting abilities of Paul Hannan, and Louise O’Reilly.

The opening track, “Love is a Devil”, sets the scene for the rest of the album. A bittersweet break up song that takes you on a journey through the downside of a breakup, its heartfelt lyrics and beautiful melodies make for an enchanting track.

Ultimately the album feels like country music made for the city slicker. It’s rural enough to take your mind to wide open spaces and dusty roads, but does not overdose on countrified lyrics, that can all too often become corny and overused.

It’s an easy listening dose of a modern take on the ‘pop’ style country/blues, music, that even those that are staunchly against the typical tropes of the genre will enjoy.

Turn Up Your Love, is a record for the daydreamer, and will have your mind wandering to places near and far, down dirt roads towards places of happiness and heartbreak.
