A horrible flashback to the old, dirty days of punk, as two people have been stabbed during a Rancid and Dropkick Murphys gig in Chicago.

As NBC reports, the victims were apparently in the bar area of the venue when an argument broke out with their attacker, who stabbed the 29 year old man in the neck and face, and slashed the 34 year old woman across her stomach.

The attacker then tried to get away, but police say a witness stepped in to prevent their escape, and they were arrested and charged by police, with the weapon recovered at the scene.

The victims, meanwhile, were taken to hospital with serious injuries, but their conditions thankfully stabilised.

The strange part about all of this is that the venue was using metal detector wands on patrons as they entered the venue, and were also performing bag and pocket checks, but clearly those security measure proved ineffectual.

“You know, I felt safe, but at the same time I could totally see how somebody slipped past security,” Carl Johnson, one of the punters at the gig, told NBC.

Cheap Trick are the next band scheduled to play the Huntington Bank Pavilion, and we’re sincerely hoping there’s no danger of death at that one.
