Ultra festival had already made its plans to return to Australia pretty clear earlier this year, but now we’ve got a confirmed venue and date for the mega-fest’s first local run.

As part of the ‘Ultra Worldwide Expansion’, Australia will be scoring new events from the Ultra team as soon as next year, starting with the single-stage one-dayer ‘The Road to Ultra: Australia’ coming to Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl on February 24.

We’ll then see a move to a full-blown multi-day ‘Ultra: Australia’ across Melbourne and Sydney in 2019, and while lineups are yet to be announced, we’ll be expecting some big names from one of the world’s largest music festivals.

“Over the past few years, Ultra Worldwide has ventured to many locations across the globe,” organisers say. “We are thrilled to announce that Ultra Worldwide will now be expanding to Ibiza, China, India, and Australia!”

The lack of a truly massive EDM event since the cancellation of Stereosonic several years back has left a gaping void in Australia’s festival landscape, but with Ultra on the way as well as the Deadmau5-headlined Sensation festival, we’re suddenly looking flush for large-scale festival events next year.
