Having trawled through roughly 1,000 tracks (count ’em, that’s three zeroes) from more than 700 up-and-coming musicians around Australia, triple j Unearthed have announced their shortlist for their Unearthed High 2016 competition.

It’s no mean feat to narrow down hundreds of artists to just a small selection representing the best high-school artists in the country, but your Unearthed High finalists are here and you can listen to them now.

Previous years winners include names like Stonefield, Asta, and last year’s victors Mosquito Coast, who’ve gone on to receive high rotation on triple j and recently announced their very first national tour.

You can check out this year’s crop below. They run the gamut of genres, featuring everything from creative bedroom producers, brooding brother-sister duos, heartfelt singer-songwriters, and mind-bending psych rock.
