This time last year, a young singer-songwriter named James Keogh was still trying to get over the fact that he and his trusty ukelele had just topped the world’s biggest music poll. Fast forward to 2015 and Vance Joy is right on the cusp of cracking that coveted US market.

The 27-year-old singer-songwriter has been doing pretty much everything right. Besides penning the mega-tune ‘Riptide’, Keogh has aligned himself with the world’s biggest pop superstar in Taylor Swift, and has been making numerous appearances on popular US talk shows, including Conan.

Most recently, Keogh made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to perform ‘Riptide’ and more recent single ‘Mess Is Mine’, which earned itself a very respectable top 20 spot in this year’s Hottest 100 countdown. The appearance came shortly after ‘Riptide’ hit its highest position in the US Billboard charts at 30.

While Keogh is making big waves overseas, all eyes back home are on this year’s Hottest 100 king, Chet Faker. Having already made a well-received appearance on Ellen, it looks like Faker is playing all the right cards to ensure he’s next in line to make it big Stateside.
