Iconic Smiths frontman Morrissey was forced to leave the stage six songs into his set this week after his voice gave out, and has withdrawn from the gig to follow, marking his third cancellation in six months.

Departing the stage mid-song, his bandmates were left to explain to the crowd why the gig had some to an abrupt end, Slicing Up Eyeballs reports.

“His voice is shot,” Gustavo Manzur told the audience. “You heard it, you heard it. He’s been trying, trying really hard. He came out, he tried. His voice is really shot. We’re sorry. He’s sorry.”

Morrissey had reportedly told the crowd earlier in the show that he was struggling with his voice, but would drop dead on stage if necessary, although he didn’t quite follow through on that promise thankfully.

The venue hosting his next show has regretfully informed fans that the gig is cancelled, as Morrissey takes time to recover, although tickets to the remaining two gigs on the tour currently remain on sale.

“Following health concerns stemming from Morrissey’s appearance in Tucson, it is with great sadness that tonight’s sold out engagement in San Antonio at the Tobin Center is cancelled to allow him to fully recuperate.” “They have scraped cancerous tissues four times already, but whatever. If I die, then I die. And if I don’t, then I don’t.”

Recent ongoing cancer scares have put less of a dent in Morrissey’s live schedule than many would have expected, but it may be time for the relentlessly-vocal Moz to take a step back from the stage and embrace a more relaxed schedule. We’re wishing him a speedy recovery.
