Volbeat Soundwave 2014 Sidewaves have been announced.

Following closely after Soundwave 2014 announced official set times and a last-minute venue change in Perth, Volbeat are now confirmed to join Filter and Hacktivist for special Sidewave shows in Sydney and Melbourne.

Volbeat were originally opening support on Sidewaves with Megadeth before frontman Dave Mustaine announced they were pulling out of the festival in a move that followed a dispute that saw Newsted – the titular heavy rock outfit of ex-Metallica’s Jason Newsted – being booted from the Sidewaves. (They are now playing shows with Testament.)

In the wake of the lineup shuffle, Volbeat now lead a triple-bill of Soundwave acts, with the Danish metal outfit – who first catapulted into the spotlight following an invitation to tour with Metallica in 2009 – arriving in Australia in support of their fifth and latest album, Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies.

A collection richly-laden with fictional characters, it strengthen’s Volbeat’s signature rebellious spirit of metal, rockabilly and country and western, as well as being their first to feature new member, ex-Anthrax guitarist Rob Caggiano (who also produced the album).

Joining Volbeat for these Soundwave 2014 Sidewaves is industrial rock veterans Filter. The band’s nucleus, frontman Richard Patrick, and his cohorts will rock material stretching from their self-produced 1995 debut Short Bus all the way through to last year’s The Sun Comes Out Tonight.

Combining rock, nu-metal, grime, and hip-hop, Hacktivist will round out the bill, the outspoken British five-piece living by the motto, “to progress, risk comes before reward, and convention must give way to invention.”

The Volbeat, Filter, and Hacktivist Soundwave 2014 Sidewaves are the latest in a string of announcements from the festival, including a triple-billed headlined by A Day To Remember, a Gwar-topped bill of metal (in four exciting flavours), and a bizarre announcement that Pennywise would be joining Less Than Jake’s Sydney Sidewave.

In festival tradition, there’s also a string of triple-billed Sidewave shows to enjoy, featuring Mastodon, Baroness, and GojiraThe Dillinger Escape Plan, Glassjaw, and Dir En Grey, plus Eagles Of Death Metal, Rocket From The Crypt, & MutemathAlice In Chains, Down, and Walking With PapersLess Than Jake, Bowling For Soup, and Zebrahead, as well as Jimmy Eat World, Panic! At The Disco, with Alkaline Trio.
