Apparently, the way to America’s heart is through its white supremacists.

US singer-songwriter Joy Villa wore a patriotic, pro-Trump dress to the Grammys on Monday which featured Trump’s tag-line ‘Make America Great Again’ down its front.

It was a bold move at the music industry event where many of the artists in attendance have outwardly slammed Trump’s policies on immigration, climate change and healthcare. But it worked wonders for the 25-year-old.

Villa’s album “I Make the Static”, which didn’t make the US chart when it was released in 2014, sold around 15,000 copies in the two days after the Grammys. It jumped to the top of Amazon’s top digital paid albums and hit #7 on the iTunes top albums chart.

According to Billboard, the album could debut in the top 40 of next week’s Billboard 200 albums chart, marking her first entrance on the chart.

Looking at the reviews in the iTunes Store, it appears the buyers forking out US$4.99 for the album are largely Trump supporters – shock, horror.

Comments included:

“I adore this lady. She wore a MAGA gown to the Grammys! I love her.”

“thank you for supporting TRUMP!! Will buy now! Thanks!,”

“I’m buying the album just because of the dress. Way to go girl!”

“I don’t know this artist, but it doesn’t matter. I am supporting her bravery on Grammy night for standing for what she believes, whether others agree or not.”

Villa took to Instagram to explain her controversial outfit:

Villa has been using her Grammys outfits to gain career traction since 2015 when she wore a transparent dress made out of orange construction-fencing material.

Then last year she wore a see-through number made from fabric spikes. To her credit though, 2016’s outfit did get a mention in Huffington Post as part of its “Most Outrageous Looks From The 2016 Grammys” list.
