Is it just us, or has Vance Joy been doing everything right? From penning one of the biggest songs in recent memory, to aligning himself with the biggest pop star in recent memory (Taylor Swift, for those playing at home), 27-year-old singer-songwriter James Keogh is on the fast track to stardom.

Back in October, we wrote about Taylor Swift’s cover of ‘Riptide’ during an appearance on BBC Radio1’s Live Lounge show, describing it as the moment that could change everything for the young songwriter. Little did we know that Swift would soon be recruiting Keogh to open for her on her latest tour.

Now, the final piece of the puzzle may have been lain, with Keogh recently making an appearance on Conan, one of the US’ biggest talk shows, where he regaled the audience and millions of viewers tuning in with the dulcet sounds of ‘Riptide’, which did more than just win hearts in his homeland.

In addition to topping the Triple J Hottest 100 last year, ‘Riptide’ also came in at a very respectable 19 in Spotify’s list of the most streamed tracks back in October, and we reckon that this latest US television appearance might be the catalyst that puts Vance Joy over the top in the highly coveted US market.
