The triple j Hottest 100 is done for another year, but what a year it was, with records broken for voting and two thirds of the countdown being made up of Aussie songs.

By the numbers, it was a great countdown for emerging Aussie talent; 26 Unearthed feature artists made the cut, including the first ever appearance from an Unearthed artist in the top 3 from Tash Sultana, and a massive 66 of the songs to make the countdown were Australian.

With such a cracking year for locals, here’s what some of the Aussies had to say about the results this year.

A.B. ORIGINAL

A.B. Original’s #16 placing for ‘January 26’ was a huge and important result for the Australia Day protest anthem, which can lay significant claim to boosting the cause to #ChangeTheDate – both of the countdown, and Australia Day in general.

“Call it what you want – but this means everything!!!! Thank you for making “January 26 featuring our brother Dan Sultan” #16 in the #Hottest100 #ReclaimAustralia”

Amy Shark

The surprise last-minute contender had a shark-themed pool party to celebrate her incredible runner-up finish with smash single ‘Adore’.

“Did that just happen?? Thank you so much for voting for me in triple j #hottest100. Cannot believe my song was played amongst so many amazing artists today!”

Tash Sultana

Tash Sultana was understandably buzzing about capping off a meteoric year with #32 and #3 – the highest finish yet for an Unearthed act.

“Yo just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who voted for Notion to come in at #32 and Jungle #3 and a huge thank you to triple j for the insane support.”

“Congrats to Flume, Amy Shark + everyone else. Special shout out to anyone anywhere around the world making original music.”

“#7!! Thank you so fkn much Australia! This ones for you

Peking Duk

Previous runners up and current snow bunnies Peking Duk were loving another top ten finish.

“HOLY SHIT NUMBER 9!!!! MASSIVE THANK U AND LOvE 2 U ALL FROM CANADA

Dune Rats

A bit further down the countdown, Dune Rats were just happy to jump into the top 100 let alone grab the pairing of #33 and #34.

“Absolutely flabbergasted!!!! We usually get in the Hottest 200. First time for everything! We can’t thank you enough!!! #33 AND #34”

Violent Soho

Violent Soho kept quiet about their #14 result with ‘Viceroy’, not to mention having 5 entries in total, instead giving A.B. Original a shoutout via retweet, as well as highlighting Blink 182 and Luca Brasi.

Flume

As for the winner Flume? He was in the triple j studio to celebrate his win, and looked pretty bloody stoked with it all. Congrats!
