This year’s Splendour In The Grass is liable to go down in history as one of the event’s most shining years, thanks to to the all-round good vibes and one absolutely mammoth lineup.

It was once again a sold-out affair, with tickets quickly being snapped up by punters who were eager to catch sets by the likes of The Strokes, The Cure, At The Drive-In, The 1975, and more.

Even local acts managed to write themselves into the Splendour history books, like Ball Park Music who followed-up on a legendary Splendour appearance with yet another unforgettable set.

But as far as we’re concerned, Splendour In The Grass 2016 will go down as the year that Splendour went viral. If you’re wondering what we’re on about, here’s a rough breakdown of all the Splendour things that went viral this year.

The Guy Who Lost His Bong

“Alright here’s the deal, got full stitched up last night,” Coolum native Pat McCulkin infamously wrote on Monday, triggering a groundswell of support when Splendour punters rallied to help him get out of his quagmire.

The issue? Someone had stolen his bong from his campsite. “Now we’re stuck in the f***ing camp site punching cannies. Cheers mate,” McCulkin wrote. His post was highlighted by the media and garnered more than 5,000 likes.

Dr. Karl Bothers Munted Punters

There may not have been any science going on at Splendour in the form of drug testing, but triple j’s Dr. Karl was there to wander the campsites and pester some unsuspecting punters with an assortment of thrilling scientific tidbits.

The good doctor gently approached festival-goers in various states of consciousness, hitting them with some situationally-relevant science facts, including why farts smell worse in the shower, as per one munted punter’s query.

DMA’s Label Manager Invites Everyone To Play Pokemon Go

Taking to a newly minted Facebook event page, Johann Ponniah, founder and director of Sydney record label I OH YOU, who count DMA’s, Violent Soho, and City Calm Down among their roster, invited Splendour punters to meet up after DMA’s finish their set to play Pokemon Go.

“Meet at the Amphitheatre stage at 3:15pm on the Friday, watch DMA’S and then let’s go catch those little f*****s,” he wrote. No word on whether anyone actually ended up finding a rare and highly coveted Pokemon in the Tipi Forest.

Nans Take Over Splendour On Facebook

Like we’ve been saying, this year what happened outside the festival captured the imagination of those attending and even those unlucky souls watching on enviously as much as the bands or the music.

The nans of Australia won over the hearts of the internet, with a number of well-wishing grandmas taking to Splendour’s Facebook event page to wish their grandchildren a safe and happy time at the festival.

The Gnarliest Splendour Injury Ever

This video of a poor Splendour punter with the gnarliest ankle injury we could possibly imagine (though we really are trying hard not to right now) was posted to the Splendour 2016 event page and has, at the time of writing, racked up more than 16,000 likes, thousands of comments, and has been shared almost 6,000 times.
