Camp Cope have reached out to some of the most prominent members in the Australian music industry, both onstage and behind the scenes, to compile a powerful video addressing the ongoing issue of sexual assault at gigs.

Many Australian bands have publicly spoken out about sexual assault incidents at their gigs in recent months, including Spiderbait, Luca Brasi, High Tension, and Urthboy.

The video calls on Australia’s live music community to take a stand against such behaviour, not only condemning those who engage in it, but encouraging others to call it out and help prevent it.

“This video campaign was inspired by ongoing conversations between us and other bands about how awful it feels to have someone get hurt, assaulted or upset at one of your shows,” Camp Cope write.

“How you as an artist feel personally responsible. We were all feeling very defeated by the continuous reports of incidents – nobody knew what to do but we all felt so passionately about it.”

“We purposefully wanted a strong male presence in the video,” they add. “Including all-male bands who tend to have a predominately male audience. ”

“This was done because we believe that women are usually the victims in these incidents so it shouldn’t solely be the responsibility of women to fix the problem.”

“We feel it’s important for men to speak to, and speak out against other men’s behaviour and be positive role models to other men.”

The clip includes appearances from Courtney Barnett, Frenzal Rhomb, triple j’s Dom Alessio, King Parrot’s Slatts Everyday, Stevie Williams from Clowns, and many more.
