We had a feeling that a pre-Splendour album release from headliners QOTSA may just be on the cards, but now that seems even more likely with a new update from the band on just where the LP is at.

Taking to socials today, QOTSA posted a snap from the studio mixing desk with the pretty straightforward caption “An album just got mixed…”, so all that we’re waiting on now is a bit of mastering, and then getting it into people’s hands.

We’ve already been assured of at least one single dropping ahead of Splendour, but with only the finishing touches to go at this stage, we’re quietly hoping the album will be out and about by the time July rolls around. If not by Splendour, then hopefully soon afterwards, as the band ramp up their touring efforts with a slew of other festival appearances in September, including Chicago’s huge Riot Fest.

This is no doubt going to rub salt in the wounds of all of the fans who missed out on this year’s lightning-fast Splendour sales and even faster sell-out of QOTSA’s East Coast sideshows, but there’s still the hope that they’ll return to Australia with more dates soon, with Josh Homme hinting as much a couple of weeks back.
