A.B. Original just dropped one of the most vital and incendiary Australian albums of the year (quite possibly in Aussie music history full stop). Entitled Reclaim Australia, the eagerly anticipated full-length debut from Briggs and Trials has been getting nothing but glowing reviews, with many hailing it as the protest record Australia has been waiting for.

Riding high on that unstoppable momentum, earlier this morning Briggs and Trials hit the triple j studios to lay down an equally vital and incendiary Like A Version cover of Paul Kelly’s classic 1989 tune ‘Dumb Things’. They got a little help by basically forging an Aussie music supergroup, tapping Dan Sultan to help out on guitar and vocals and the man Paul Kelly himself.

Now, getting the original artist to help you perform a Like A Version ‘cover’ of their own song might be considered cheating, but seriously, who cares!? Do you see how incredible this cover is? Yeah, we thought so. The reggae-style arrangement and the incredible musicianship of the band members, including Kelly’s ace harmonica solo, makes this a shoo-in for the next Like A Version CD.

Not too long ago we ran through a few of our favourite Like A Version covers of the year so far, including Sarah Blasko’s incredible David Bowie cover, Guy Sebastian linking up with Paces, and Hey Geronimo mashing up Courtney Barnett and Regurgitator.
