It’s been one heck of a week for fans of A Perfect Circle, with the group going from teasing new music to bringing it to our ears within the space of just a few days.

Just last Thursday, we saw a sneaky Tweet from Maynard James Keenan which indicated the group were set to be working on new tracks. While Maynard never happened to elaborate on when these new tracks were coming, he did happen to throw in a hashtag which contained the word “apc2018”, which we took to mean that new music was incoming.

Then, over the weekend, the band shared an instrumental promo video which teased something called ‘The Doomed’. Was it a new track? A new album? We had no idea, but we knew something was on the way. Now, we have received what was promised.

Dropping today, A Perfect Circle have released the new track ‘The Doomed’, and confirmed that they are set to release a brand new album in 2018, just as Maynard had hinted.

“14 years have passed since we released eMOTIVe,” Maynard said in a statement. “A new release is long overdue. In light of this current difficult and polarized social, spiritual and political climate, we artist types need to open our big mouths and share the light a little louder.”

“Years of life experience has brought our music to this moment,” guitarist Billy Howerdel added. “We know where we came from. Deeply connected to the path we’re on.”

The release of ‘The Doomed’ marks the band’s first release of new material since ‘By And Down’, in 2013, which was released on a greatest hits compilation titled Three Sixty. A new record by the band will be their first since their 2004 cover album eMOTIVe, and their first record of all-new material since 2003’s Thirteenth Step. Needless to say, we’re pretty keen for this one.

Of course, the obvious question to ask when a Maynard James Keenan project is brought up is, “But what about the new Tool album?” Well, considering that A Perfect Circle fans have been waiting a little bit longer than Tool fans have, we reckon we’ll let that question slide right now and just enjoy the new music.
