It’s the reunion the universe never thought they’d witness. For years, music fans had reconciled with the fact that they would never enjoy the fruits of the most influential pop group’s creativity ever again, left with only a timeless back catalogue to enjoy.
Now, as announced in an Instagram statement from Benny Andersson, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Agnetha Faltskog, the defining 70s act ABBA will be once again writing new music.
The Swedish superstars announced that they had recorded two new songs, including one titled ‘I Still Have Faith in You’, marking the band’s first new material in 35 years.
If you’re hoping that the release of new music would lead to the group reuniting on stage, don’t get your hopes up – the track ‘I Still Have Faith In You’ will debut during a December TV special broadcast by the BBC and NBC, performed by the member’s holograms.
In a statement, the band noted that reuniting to write had been an “extremely joyous experience.” “It was like time had stood still and that we had only been away on a short holiday. An extremely joyous experience!”
A release date for the second track that has been recorded is yet to be revealed. The band split up in 1982, announcing that they’d never perform live together again.
