The organisers of NYE On The Hill, the New Year’s expansion of the boutique invite-only The Hills Are Alive, have already shown their ingenuity by offering the last tickets to the sold out event to those that come up with the best excuses.

Now the team are continuing to show their creative colours, as they launch a brand new project titled ‘Live From The Farm’.

A music video series that uses the picturesque locale of the private farm in regional Victorian that is the site for the inaugural NYE On The Hill, ‘Live From The Farm’ sees some of Australia’s best emerging bands and artists taking the country trip to “cruise around the beautiful landscape, talk about their music and perform a song live in ‘the old shed’,” in the words of mysterious festival patriarch, ‘The Farmer’ (no relation to Aunty Meredith).

Helping to launch the series is an artist featured on the inaugural NYE On The Hill lineup, sophisticated Melbourne singer-songwriter/producer Hayden Calnin performs his new single ‘Coward’ – its rhythms and Calnin’s haunting vocals rattling around the tin walls – before taking in a short interview.

Following using singer-songwriter Big Winter’s performance of ‘Simple Ideas’ as a pilot, the Hayden Calnin episode officially launches ‘Live From the Farm’ with a new episode featuring a new artist to be released each month.

News of the music video series arrives as The Farmer begins compiling the list of the tallest tales and the grandest fibs from those appealing their excuses for why they missed out on purchasing a ticket to the sold out NYE On The Hill, where Hayden Calnin will be performing alongside an impressive list of talent that includes Loon Lake, Wagons, Money For Rope, The Love Junkies, and Remi among a list of nearly 25 bands, plus extra-musical features like comedy, a petting zoo, food and games.

“If you have an amazingly creative, humorous and semi-justifiable excuse for not yet having purchased your ticket you may still be in with a chance to attend,” revealed The Farmer last week.

Now some of those vying for the last five specially allocated tickets are being shared on the event’s Facebook page, with many taking to heart the advice to not “let the truth get in the way of a good story,” ranging from Peruvian ware-goats, a credit card sandwich, and a long-winded tale that manages to squeeze every single one of the band names on the NYE lineup.

Would-be storytellers have until Friday the 30th November to “submit their case” to the NYE On The Hill patriarch at [email protected]

While it seems that opportunities to attend the New Year’s festival have all but gone, the team’s flagship event, the invite-only The Hills Are Alive – hosted at the same site as the inaugural NYE On The Hill – is getting into gear for its sixth annual edition, to take place over the last weekend of March (29th and 30th), with the full lineup to be unveiled on Monday 16th December via the fancy new redesigned website that pools the two festival events and the new ‘Live From The Farm’ series in one place.

Capped at a capacity of 1,200 “friends-of-friends”, tickets for The Hills Are Alive 2014 will be available to those with access to The Farmer’s ‘Secret Password’ on Sunday 8th December, and considering that NYE On The Hill sold out in its first year, it’s likely that the sister event is to disappear just as quickly.
