There’s an update on the Avenged Sevenfold Soundwave 2014 Sidewaves, including a change of date for the Melbourne sideshow and the addition of a new support act to the bill.

The Soundwave 2014 headliners were confirmed for headline Sidewave shows yesterday among a wave of announcements – including sideshows from Black Veil Brides and a triple bill topped by The Dillinger Escape Plan.

Today arrives news that the show date has been changed for AX7’s headline show in Melbourne. The Festival Hall concert has moved to Wednesday 26th February, a day earlier from the originally scheduled Thursday 27th date.

Additionally, joining the bill alongside special guests Five Finger Death Punch, is Asking Alexandria. Arriving off the back of a sold out tour of Europe and North America in support of the band’s latest album, From Death To Destiny, Asking Alexandria will be the main support for the Avenged Sevenfold Sidewaves, opening up for the Soundwave headliners in both Melbourne and Sydney.

Avenged Sevenfold have achieved worldwide success with a string of best-selling albums, including their 2005 platinum breakthrough City Of Evil, 2007’s Avenged Sevenfold, 2010′s Nightmare, and their latest Hail To The King — achieving Diamond, Platinum and Gold awards for album sales in nearly a dozen countries.

The Huntington Beach, California metallers are also known for their masterful live shows, routinely selling out arenas worldwide and headlining some of the biggest and most prestigious music festivals, with a catalogue of spectacle worthy hits including ‘Bat Country’, ‘Nightmare’, ‘The Beast And The Harlot’, and many more.

Also opening for Avenged Sevenfold will be the visceral Five Finger Death Punch, who hit Australia for the first time since releasing their fourth and fifth studio albums, The Wrong Side of Heaven and The Righteous Side of Hell Vol. 1 & Vol 2.

The news arrives amidst a long list of Soundwave 2014 Sidewaves announcements, the latest being headlines shows from Richie Sambora and Black Veil Brides.

In Soundwave tradition there’s also a ream of massive triple-bill shows to enjoy, featuring Mastodon, Baroness, and GojiraRob Zombie & Korn, and Alter Bridge & Living ColourMegadeth, Volbeat, and NewstedThe Dillinger Escape Plan, Glassjaw, and Dir En Grey, and Eagles Of Death Metal, Rocket From The Crypt, & Mutemath.

Then there’s Alice In Chains, Down, and Walking With PapersLess Than Jake, Bowling For Soup, and Zebrahead, and Jimmy Eat World, Panic! At The Disco, with Alkaline Trio, plus Sidewaves AFI with ††† (Crosses)Biffy ClyroPlacebo, and Clutch.

In related news, the Soundwave 2014 lineup underwent a massive lineup change last week after top-billed act Stone Temple Pilots announced they’d cancelled on their festival appearance and sideshows just four weeks out from the event’s kick off.

Citing commitments to recording their first album with Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington, the band have since admitted to not telling the whole truth about their Soundwave cancellation, revealing the “initial statement citing ‘recording delays’ wasn’t true.”

Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah has defended Stone Temple Pilots’ decision, saying their “reason is totally valid and understandable. Completely out of their control.” Meanwhile, The Living End have been roped in to replace STP on the Soundwave 2014 lineup, joining a massive bill that features over 90 artists.
