Tabloid journalism strikes again! This time it’s Tone Deaf’s other favourite UK red top, The Daily Mirror, which appears to be wearing egg on its face after it ran a story suggesting that The Libertines were set to reform yet again.

The band reformed for megabucks last year to play the Reading and Leeds Festivals, but promptly split up again afterwards.  Reporter Dean Piper, in an apparent exclusive informed readers that Carl Barât and Pete Doherty were set to reform again to play a UK tour at the end of the year with European dates in the new year and then finishing up with several summer festival performances.

He said “It means live dates before the end of the year in the UK, followed by Europe next year and climaxing in the summer with a string of festival appearances. And I even hear the boys are talking about a new studio album!”

However, Barât has poured cold water on this report, telling fans on his Facebook page that such pipe dreams were nonsense. He said “So that “story” in the Mirror yesterday? Complete fabrication, folks.”

He followed it up on fans behalf with his management, saying that despite a recent meeting between he and Doherty, of which a photo was posted on Facebook, there are no plans for a reunion.

He told Facebook fans “Quote from Der Management: “ None of us are aware where this is all coming from beyond the fact the pair of them met for a tea and had a nice time. Carl posted a picture of them on Twitter and that’s that really. Truth of the matter is there are NO plans whatsoever in the pipeline and both of them are committed to other things for the next year anyway. Carl leaves for Paris next month for rehearsals on his opera which will keep him busy until next June and Peter is away on tour”.
