The legendary Beasts Of Bourbon are set to reform once again next month when they perform at Melbourne’s Prince Bandroom as part of a benefit concert for former bassist Brian Hooper.
Formed back in 1983, the Beasts Of Bourbon have been regarded as one of the greatest blues-rock groups to ever grace Aussie stages. Featuring members of the Hoodoo Gurus, The Scientists, and The Johnnys, and fronted by the inimitable Tex Perkins, the Beasts of Bourbon were a force to be reckoned with in their heyday.
Over the years, the group released a total of six albums, with sporadic reformations over the last few decades. Sadly, it has since been announced that Brian Hooper, who served as the group’s bassist since the early ’90s, has been diagnosed with incurable lung cancer.
As The Music reports, the Beasts Of Bourbon are set to reform once more for the I Get Up Again benefit concert which aims to raise funds for Hooper and his family.
With a lineup that also features the likes of former Beast Of Bourbon member Kim Salmon playing with The New Scientists, Magic Dirt’s Adalita, The Birthday Party’s Mick Harvey, The Drones’ Gareth Liddiard, SixFtHick, and Rosie Westbrook, this is undoubtedly set to be a special occasion in honour of an Australian musical icon who is beloved by his peers.
“I Get Up Again will be a rare and unique show,” says Beasts Of Bourbon drummer and event organiser Tony Pola. “As you’d expect from an artist of Brian’s pedigree, it will bring some of Australia’s most respected alternative rock, seminal punk and swamp blues artists together for what is shaping up to be an unmissable night.”
The benefit is set to take place on Friday, April 13th at the Prince Bandroom in St. Kilda. With further details being announced as they are finalised, check out the concert’s Facebook event page for more info.
