News of an official Queen film has been floating around for years. Sacha Baron Cohen was official slated to play Freddie Mercury years ago, but disagreements about direction saw him leave the project before film commenced.

It would appear that all teething problems have finally been resolved, as the band announced on their official site that work on the film ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is underway – with Bryan Singer attached as director, and Mr. Robot actor Rami Malek playing Freddie, as was confirmed last year.

“Rami has great presence and he’s utterly dedicated to the project”, Brian May and Roger Taylor — who are serving as the film’s executive music producers — wrote in a statement. “He’s completely living and breathing Freddie already, which is wonderful.”

Pre-production begins next week, with principal photography starting in London mid-September. Surely the film’s title will change before release too.
