In tragic news, Warrant singer Jani Lane was found dead in a California motel room last night. Police were called to the Comfort Inn Hotel in Woodland Hills where his body was discovered by a room cleaner. He was aged just 47. No official cause of death has yet been released.

The singer of Warrant’s biggest hit ‘Cherry Pie’ had struggled with substance abuse issues in recent years and had spent time in jail for drink driving. Lane had left Warrant twice – first in 1993 before returning the next year and then again in 2008 after an abortive reformation tour. He had been playing solo gigs but cancelled his most recent tour in February, just two days before it was due to start. The singer had appeared on the VH1 channel’s Celebrity Fit Club reality TV show but continued to struggle with his health.

Before heading in to jail last year, he issued a statement saying “My true hope is that anyone out there dealing with personal problems… the consequences do not get lighter. I can only say I’ve never regretted a good decision or action and never been proud of bad ones. People have an astounding ability to forgive… I have to start with forgiving myself. That is something that I find far more difficult than I imagined. I think it starts with gratitude.”
