Our heads nearly exploded in excitement when Cherry Bar announced that they were bringing back Melbourne’s ultimate laneway party, CherryRock, with organisers teasing with a sold lineup of both international and Aussie acts performing in AC/DC Lane, and to make things even sweeter, they’ve added four more acts to the epic day out.
Crashing their way into Melbourne’s alleyways are The Shrine. Formed in 2008, The Shrine play a house-rocking breed of heavy, psychedelic, riff based Rock n’ Roll. Their debut, recorded on vintage reel-to-reel tape, by local hero Dave O. Jones and under the auspices of the notorious Chuck Dukowski, is the perfect soundtrack to any debaucherous gathering of long-hairs.
In addition to this, the heavy-hitting psychos, Clowns, the murderous riffers Warped and the hypnotic blues prog-rock outfit The Ugly Kings round out the fresh batch of sounds that will emanate from the city’s walls.
These four insane acts join the already announced pedigree of talent including Red Fang, Beastwars, HITS, Child, My Left Boot as well as Fuck The Fitzroy Doom Scene, Dr Colossus, and Los Hombres Del Diablo for the ninth annual CherryRock015 street rock and roll festival.
Despite previous concerns that local residential development and the Pastuso restaurant at the foot of AC/DC Lane would spell the end of CherryRock, Cherry Bar owner and booker James Young says, “The new residents can just suck it up, but we did have concerns with Pastuso because they are a very popular Peruvian restaurant open seven days and nights a week.”
“Thankfully David Parker and the guys are really good guys and we came to an ingenious solution. They host their annual staff party on Sunday 10 May and Cherry gives them all free tickets to come to CherryRock015. Bang! Deal done. Turn everything up!”
