If you happen to be in Castro Valley, California on February 10, you’ll be one of many music fans celebrating “Cliff Burton Day”, in honor of the late Metallica bassist.

The honour came after a Change.org petition pushed to recognise Burton’s birthday in his hometown.

Burton died in a tour bus accident in 1986, while the band were on the road promoting that’s year’s breakthrough Master Of Puppets. He played on the band’s first three albums.

“Thanks to all of the fans who got behind this initiative”, the band wrote on Instagram. “We’d like to send our appreciation and respect to all of you who continue to honor Cliff in your own personal ways.”
