Back in the mid-’00s, it was pretty hard to turn on triple j, or head along to a music festival without seeing Cog, the Sydney prog-metal champions who delivered their unique tunes in a way that saw them quickly become one of the country’s favourite acts in no time.

However, following the release of their second album, Sharing Space, in 2008, the band sort of went quiet. Following a series of shows that fans feared would be the last the group ever played, Cog broke up and left a huge hole in the Aussie music scene for quite some time, with fans around the country wondering if and when Cog were set to make a return.

Thankfully, 2016 saw Cog finally get back together to play live shows, which quickly sold out. Then, just a matter of days ago, Cog shared the first new music recorded by the band in almost ten years. Dubbed ‘The Middle’, the group’s new track is a return to form that helps to fill a void left in the hearts of fans all over the country.

But the best part? Cog are hitting the road in support of the new single, announcing ‘The Middle Tour’ a number of weeks back. With dates scheduled for Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, and Brisbane, the tour is set to kick off this Friday night at the Chelsea Heights Hotel in Victoria.

But is there a new album on the horizon? Back in 2016, the group told a crowd that they were “going to try and release a new album soon,” but so far, we’ve not heard much else. Could ‘The Middle’ be the first taste of a new record? Maybe, and maybe lucky fans might be hearing brand new tunes from the Sydney rockers this week when they hit up the Chelsea Heights Hotel on Friday night for a very special show.
