Renowned collaborators Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile have just dropped some exciting news this morning, letting us in on the plans for their upcoming album and tour together.

Barnett has announced that the album will be “coming soon”, and will be accompanied by a US tour kicking off in October, with the duo apologising to fans in other countries disappointed they’re being left out.

“I wish we could take the tour all around the world,” she says, “but due to both our intercontinental schedules, this is all we can muster for now.”

Courtney and Kurt have been longstanding friends, and Barnett took the opportunity to big up her musical companion and the star-studded touring band they’ve put together, which will include Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint, Janet Weiss of Sleater-Kinney and Wild Flag, Rob Laakso of Kurt’s band The Violators among others, and Sky Larkin’s Katie Harkin, who tours with Sleater-Kinney and Wild Beasts.

“Somewhere along the dusty road I became friends with this constant hitmaker Kurt Vile,” Barnett explains. “I’ve been a huge fan of his songwriting since I first heard his album Smoke Ring For My Halo n now we’ve razzled up a special show for you. Me n Kurt together on stage plus our amazing all-star band that we have called The Sea Lice.”

Kurt, meanwhile, is just as much of a fan of hers.

“I love all her music but the song that really hit me was ‘Depreston’” he told Pitchfork. “I know it’s popular but her voice is so good in that song and it’s so pretty and sincere… I’m a sucker for that kinda song: instant classic.”

It’s a damn good lineup and, even better, they’ve pledged to donate a dollar from every ticket to the American Civil Liberties Union.

A lovely tour all-round then, but now all we need is to have them back home for some gigs of our own.
