One of alt-metal’s most enduring, consistent and influential acts, Deftones have shared a behind the scenes studio update, hinting at the current recording of new music.
The band last released the excellent Gore in 2016 that saw the band continue to develop on atmospheric and experimental soundscapes that they’d dabbled in on previous albums. Gore was also the band’s first album to reach the number one spot on the ARIA charts, smashing sales expectations almost 30 years into their legendary career.
A vague post on their Instagram page captioned “Someone say jam?!#deftones #backatit #fujixt2 #fujifilm #xt2”, alluding to the band’s present stage of the writing process.
The band’s frontman Chino Moreno sat down with NME last year to chat about the band’s writing and recording process, saying that fans could expect to hear new music sooner rather than later.
“When we make records, we don’t really talk about what we’re trying to do or what our ideas are for it, we kind of just go in and make music. That’s what keeps it fresh for us.”
“We don’t try to box ourselves into these pre-conceived ideas, but we have talked about getting together sooner [rather] than later to start making noise together – just out of pure excitement of creating music.”
