Artists from integral Aussie hip hop label Elefant Traks will join an eclectic line up drawing from all kinds of genres for this year’s Graphic expo at the Sydney Opera House.

The festival will run on the weekend of the 10th and 11th of November, showcasing exceptional works in “graphic storytelling, animation and music.”

The Elefant Traks crew will present a new show inspired by the works of Theodor Geisel – better known as Dr. Seuss – the author of such classics as Green Eggs and Ham, the Cat in the Hat, and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. If these titles aren’t ringing any bells, stop reading this and go and see a psychologist, because you didn’t have a childhood.

Elefant Traks performers at Graphic include Hermitude, recently confirmed for December’s Festival of the Sun, Urthboy, taking time off from saving Sydney’s music scene, political spitfires the Herd, the ever-seductive vocals of Jane Tyrell, TZU’s Joelistics, Sietta, Unkle Ho, the Last Kinection’s Jaytee, Ozi Battler, and newest addition to the label, Jimblah.

The two 90-minute shows will be a collaboration between each of these artists, who together make up a roll call of the best of NSW hip hop.

The expo will also feature, among others: NZ reggae masters Fat Freddy’s Drop, who will be previewing an animated version of their next album Blackbird; director of the emotional roller coaster that is Toy Story 3 Lee Unkrich, who will take viewers behind the scenes of Pixar’s creative process; and community radio station FBi, who will present a “blind date between radio and comics” – undoubtedly a match made in heaven.

There will also be a workshop on creating computer games with industry professionals, and the screening of the winner of an animated short competition (who will have an extra 10, 000 dollars in their pocket to keep them super happy.)

Previous alumni of the event include legendary children’s writer Shaun Tan (of ‘the Arrival’ and ‘the Rabbits’ fame,) and the biggest Australian export since Vegemite, Gotye. If previous years are anything to go by, and if the expo is as good as its YouTube ad (see above), punters have a lot to look forward to.
