If you’re a fan of music and Twin Peaks, then this year’s revival series of the classic show must be right up your alley. Fresh from hosting bands such as Nine Inch Nails, Au Revoir Simone, Chromatics, and even Moby, the show’s fictional live music venue, The Roadhouse, must have one heck of a band budget, especially when you consider who they roped in for today’s episode.

Eagle-eyed fans of the show may have noticed that when the show’s cast list originally was released, it featured none other than Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder. However, after 15 episodes in the season, and only three more to go, fans were getting a little antsy as to when the grunge legend would be stopping by. Today, the prayers of those fans were answered, with Vedder appearing to perform his new song ‘Out Of Sand’.

Introduced by his birth name, Edward Louis Severson, Eddie Vedder appeared on stage with only an acoustic guitar to enchant viewers and listeners. Vedder’s song, ‘Out Of Sand’, was written specifically for the show, and fits into today’s episode perfectly. We won’t spoil any of the plot in case you haven’t seen it, but with plenty of Internet commenters calling today’s episode one of the best pieces of television they’ve ever seen, it was only fitting to have a big name like Vedder provide the music.

Of course, this wasn’t the first time the track had been heard. In fact, the song was written for the show over a year ago, and made its live debut last year. The song was also released on a 7″ vinyl record by Jack White’s Third Man Records label as well, but fans have had to wait until now to hear the song in its proper context.

The timing of Vedder’s appearance was rather apt too, with the episode premiering on Sunday, August 27th in the US, which just so happens to be the day that Pearl Jam’s seminal record Ten turned 26 years old. We’ve already covered how Twin Peaks star Kyle MacLachlan is a fan of the record, so everything has just come full circle with this performance.
