Sure we’ve heard about you before, but we think it’s time for Tone Deaf to get to know you a little better. Slip in to something comfortable while we put on some music, pour us a couple of drinks and turn the lights down low.

Who are you and what do you do in your act?

I am Pepito, I stand to the left. I take care of the low end.

‘Fess up. What records have you stolen from your parents’ record collection and why?

She – Harry Connick Jr. You cant get much smoother than Harry, especially on this album.

What’s on heavy rotation on your iPod right now?

Sam Baker – Samiyam

‘Home taping is killing the music business’ was the catch-cry of the record industry in the 1970s and 1980s, but it managed to survive until now. What do you think is the difference between mates taping copies of friend’s records back in the 80s and 90s and file sharing now?

The difference is that file sharing lets you get your hands on virtually any recording no matter where the artist is from or how popular they are. It’s great, you hear of something, you go home, and you are listening to it an hour later. Artists have potential to reach a larger audience, and audiences have a boundless pool of sounds at their fingertips. I don’t see how the music business can stop it; they just need to accept it. It’s a good thing.

You must answer this question honestly or we steal your rider. What was the first gig you went to? Where was it and what was the venue?

Wiggles… Regent Multiplex in Ballarat… got backstage and met them all. Jeff wasn’t there, sleeping? Or something more sinister?

What’s your favourite site to download music from and do you ever pay for it? Can we find any of your releases there?

Don’t really have a favourite site to download from, perhaps the Pirate Bay. And no I rarely pay for music these days. I need my money to bet on the dogs.

What artist made you want to pick up an instrument and/or sing?

Hmmm I don’t know really. I do remember being turned on by that Harry Connick album when I was young.

Have you ever been arrested?

Yes.

Do you have any particular ritual before you go on stage, or even a lucky charm you take with you?

Nope

Supposing you were to be playing sold out stadiums on your next tour, what outrageous rider requests would you submit?

Just heaps of pita bread and Hommus. Enough for everybody.

Because it’s more fun to do things together, which living Australian artist would you most like to collaborate with? Tell us why?

Dame Edna…. Come to our show and see why.

Right, let’s get really intimate. Tell us what releases you have that we can listen to with the lights down low, or even better, where we can see you play in person next. Naturally, don’t forget to give us the link to your Facebook fan page too.

Well we are releasing our first single, Keepsake, at the Grace Darling this Friday night. The first 100 people that come get a limited edition Fier$e ring, these rings may or may not give you super powers. If you want a taste though you can watch our video clip to the song ‘Go’ on youtube.
