Poor Moon, the musical side-project for Fleet Foxes’ bassist Christian Wargo and keyboardist Casey Wescott with their pals Ian and Peter Murray from The Christmas Cards, have just announced a deal with Sub Pop Records which will see their debut EP, Illusion, out on 27th March this year.

The band, named for frontman and primary songwriter Christian Wargo’s favorite Canned Heat song, began four years ago as a long distance project with demos being created and sent back and forth while Wargo and Wescott were touring in support of the Fleet Foxes 2008 self-titled debut and Ian and Peter living in the Bay area.

The band have been playing around the Seattle house party scene ever since under a number of monikers such as Rabbit Kingdom and Cookie Mask, before settling on Poor Moon and signing to the iconic label that became synonymous with the grunge scene born out of Seattle in the 90s.

Fleet Foxes are also signed to Sub Pop so the match makes perfect sense. The group were just in Australia for Falls Festival over New Years Eve as well as a string of sideshows.
