You might want to sit down for a minute here, because it may shock you to learn that the last time Flight Of The Conchords released a new album was nine years ago. While it feels like just yesterday that New Zealand’s most famous duo were on our screens and on our iPods, it’s actually been quite a few years between drinks for the funny folksters. However, it seems as though you’re about to laugh once more as the band have confirmed they’re coming back for a brand new TV special.

2018 marks the 20th anniversary of Flight Of The Conchords, and it also marks eleven years since “New Zealand’s fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo” appeared on our TV screens with their self-titled HBO comedy series.

Since the series wrapped up in 2009, the band have released two singles, but have also been a little busy with other projects. Jemaine Clement has been busy pursuing an acting career, while Bret McKenzie has been off winning Oscars for his musical work on and off the big screen. But now, the duo are set to return to the small screen once more, it seems.

According to a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Clement responded to rumours of a revival of the series while at FX’s Television Critics Association press day on Friday.

“We’d do something,” Clement answered. “We’re going to film a little something this year,” before adding, “We’re going to shoot an hour thing.”

While the information was a little light, the AV Club confirmed the news with a representative of HBO, who stated, “The deals are not fully in place. We’ll hopefully have news soon.”

This news comes seven years after the duo initially announced they were working on a Flight Of The Conchords movie, and four years after Jemaine Clement initially shot down rumours of a new series for the program.

While it’s been relatively quiet for the band in recent years, they’ve recently made a return to the live stage and have a series of UK dates lined up soon, with US dates apparently incoming. Here’s hoping they make a trip home some time in the future, while taking a quick detour over to our neck of the woods to give their Aussie pals a taste of what they’ve been missing too.
