It’s a bittersweet thing to see a band’s work flood back onto the charts following the death of a bandmember, but it’s something we’re seeing happen once again this week as Linkin Park’s records see a huge increase in plays following the death by suicide of the band’s lead singer Chester Bennington.

As Billboard reports, the latest chart sees the former #1 records MeteoraMinutes to Midnight and latest effort One More Light, are all back on the top 200, as well as their debut Hybrid Theory, which originally peaked at #2 back in ’00.

This chart only tracks plays up until July 20, so it seems very likely that the albums will all jump up even higher the following week, with One More Light already sitting in the 17th spot.

It’s a situation that sadly echoes the reappearance of seven of Chris Cornell’s albums in the ARIA charts following the Soundgarden frontman’s death from suicide in remarkably similar circumstances to Bennington’s passing.

Bennington had penned a heartfelt tribute to Cornell in the weeks following his death, describing his talent as “pure and unrivaled”.

“Your voice was joy and pain, anger and forgiveness, love and heartache all wrapped up into one. I suppose that’s what we all are. You helped me understand that.”

Bennington leaves behind 6 children, and an entire genre of music forever shaped by his efforts.
