Just a matter of days after Fox News’ Katherine Timpf shared her opinion that Radiohead’s fans are “strange, malnourished, and sad,” the media personality has yet again been at the forefront of a controversial Radiohead opinion, this time, with the band being compared to fellow English musos Coldplay.
Just last week, Katherine Timpf was on Fox News’ The Greg Gutfeld Show, where she shared a divisive opinion of the beloved alt-rock legends and their recent Rock And Roll Hall of Fame nomination.“Seeing as it’s about fame and not talent, I think that Radiohead is definitely going to get in, and should get in,” she began.
“I don’t even like them, but the kind of guys that I like have to be three things: strange, malnourished, and sad,” she continued. “Those guys always like Radiohead, so I’ve been having to pretend to like Radiohead for years to get these men, even though the music is just elaborate moaning and whining for ring tone sounds.”
As NME notes, following the backlash that these comments received, Timpf again appeared on The Greg Gutfeld Show, with host Greg Gutfeld making a reference to her previous remarks.
During a discussion on Halloween costumes, Gutfeld addressed Timpf and shared his opinion. “I have an idea for a new costume that everybody should wear, where you look depressed, malnourished, and sad. You’d be going as a Radiohead fan.”
This of course prompted Timpf to discuss the backlash she’s received, noting that the “strange, malnourished, and sad” men that she would usually be attracted to no longer have an interest in her due to her statements. “I wish that I would’ve joked about something less serious like religion or war,” she offered. “Would’ve been much less divisive than this has been.”
As part of a closing remark on the topic, host Greg Gutfeld shared his own opinion. “You know, Radiohead is a fine band but they stole everything from Coldplay,” he stated, leading Katherine Timpf to respond by calling Coldplay “another bunch of sad people.”

While the rivalry between Radiohead and Coldplay is something of a contentious issue for fans of both acts, it’s long been (jokingly) suggested that Coldplay have actually been the ones to copy Radiohead in the past, basing their evolving sound on Radiohead’s music.
Back in 2008, Coldplay even jovially suggested during a concert that their song ‘God Put A Smile Upon Your Face’ sounded somewhat similar to Radiohead’s ‘2+2=5’ (despite the fact that the songs were released to close to each other that this probably wouldn’t have been the case). This of course occurred just after the band had been accused of plagiarising Joe Satriani’s ‘If I Could Fly’ in the process of writing their song ‘Viva La Vida’.
Coldplay’s Chris Martin later joked about their Radiohead influence in an issue of Rolling Stone. “Sometimes I feel like they cleared a path with a machete, and we came afterward and put up a strip mall,” he said. “I would still give my left ball to write anything as good as OK Computer.”
