Grinderman, fronted by the enigmatic Nick Cave, have called it a day after an incredible set at Meredith Music Festival over the weekend playing to the backdrop of rolling storm clouds (shame about that eclipse…)

After the end of their set Nick Cave approached the microphone and told the heathing mass of people “That’s it for Grinderman. It’s over. See you in 10 years.”

Grinderman have released two studio albums, Grinderman and Grinderman 2, which was only released a year ago and was recently nominated for Album Of The Year at the ARIAs but lost to an unstoppable Boy & Bear.

In an interview with FasterLouder in 2010, Grinderman’s drummer Jim Sclavunos talked about the bands future saying “It’s a bit early to be saying Grinderman’s always going sound a certain way. I already think there’s a big difference between the first album and the second album personally so who knows where Grinderman’s going to go sonically from here.”

There’s was no indication as to the reason the band have decided to call it a day and an official announcement from the band has not been made yet.
