Who said Aussie hop hop was suffering a downturn? Hilltop Hoods, who had defied the industry and gone from strength to strength have announced today that their new single, ‘I Love It’ which features fellow Aussie Sia, has gone platinum meaning it’s sold over 70,000 copies.

The news comes as the group is preparing to drop their sixth studio LP Drinking From The Sun, which is scheduled for release on 9th March this year through their own label Golden Era Records.

But that isn’t the only good news to come out of the Hilltop Hoods camp with Fontana, a distro company in the US that falls under the Universal Music Group, inking an exclusive agreement with Golden Era Records to release the new Hilltop Hoods album stateside.

The deal also covers the groups back catalog and is effective immediately with ‘I Love It’ being released today to US audiences.

The announcement was made by Ron Spaulding, President of Fontana, who said “When I was in Australia, I was introduced to The Hilltop Hoods by Dylan and was blown away by the sheer quality of music they were producing; coupled with their success in their native country, we are excited to introduce them to the United States,” stated Mr. Spaulding. “Golden Era is a great partner and we look forward to working with them.”

Dylan Liddy, Hilltop Hoods manager is also excited for what the future might hold saying “In the last few years, Hilltop Hoods have been successfully touring and releasing material in Canada, Germany, Switzerland and the UK. Fontana has a proven track record of success in hip hop and we know they are the winning team to partner with to tackle the U.S.”

Australian audiences can next see Hilltop Hoods live as they tour around the country as part of the Big Day Out 2012 festival.
