Undoubtedly one of the most relevant bands of today, Prophets Of Rage have made a name for themselves by delivering some of the most politically-confronting lyrics, backed by some of the most excellent music in recent times. But have you ever wondered how it all came to be?

Sure, some folks might just think that the formation of Prophets Of Rage came about when Rage Against The Machine’s members teamed up with musicians from Cypress Hill and Public Enemy, but the truth is that it goes far deeper than that. For example, have you ever considered the role that Aerosmith and Run-DMC played in the formation of the rap-rock genre?

Yes, following the release of Run-DMC’s cover of Aerosmith’s ‘Walk This Way’, the two genres of rap and rock music suddenly came together in a way that few ever thought possible. Before long, these genres mixed, merged, and evolved into something special, giving birth to a platform that allowed groups such as Rage Against The Machine, Cypress Hill, and Public Enemy to take the stage.

With each of these three bands having stellar, influential careers, the current political climate gave rise to the need for a new band that fans of rock, rap, and metal can come together to fight the power with. Thus, in 2016, Prophets Of Rage were born, and the political face of music was once again changed completely.

With Prophets Of Rage set to touch down in Australia in just a couple of weeks for the first visit to Australia, which includes a huge set at the inaugural Download Festival and a few sideshow performances, we’ve decided to take a look back at the history of this phenomenal band and see just how they appeared on the music scene.
