From the seriously WTF department comes some of the funniest news we’ve heard in a while. Apparently US wrestling icon Hulk Hogan, who if you don’t know was big in the 80s and early 90s, was a bass player prior to jumping in the ring and almost joined a little band at the time called Metallica.

True story, or so he tells UK trash rag The Sun. “I used to be a session musician before I was a wrestler,” he says in the interview. “I played bass guitar. I was big pals with Lars Ulrich and he asked me if I wanted to play bass with Metallica in their early days but it didn’t work out.”

“Jerry Hall also asked Mick Jagger if I could play bass with the Rolling Stones. Mick never got back to me,” he says. We can’t help but wonder how the metal band would have turned out had the Hulk joined their ranks but given their recent proclivity for terrible collaborations we’re sure we won’t have to wait long to find out.

In the interview the Hulk also reveals he has a passion for recently reformed British band The Stone Roses saying “I love the Stone Roses. They’re getting back together, right? That’s cool man. I used to work out to some of their songs.” But his love doesn’t extend to every British band.

Lately he’s been having a bit of trouble in hotels around the world as Kasabian have been using his name as a pseudonym on tour to stop fans finding them. Unfortunately for the Hulk they’ve also been leaving said rooms in total disarray and he’s been coping the flak.

“I heard about these guys,” he says. “They have made a show about UK wrestling in the Eighties, called Walk Like A Panther. I know Rollerball Rocco, he’s in it. He’s my guy. I’ll be his tag partner and sort them out for trashing hotel rooms under my name.”
