Already in with a strong chance for winning best Australian single title of the year, ‘I Am A Homosexual’ sees Taka Honda, busy drummer for Little Red step out from behind the drum kit and take on the front man role in his side project The Hondas. Opening with the line I Am A Woman/But I Was Born As A Man, the song is a rollicking tale of identity and finding one’s place in the world.

Lest the ladies fear that Taka’s not going to be susceptible to their charms, this jangling, bluesy number pays equal homage to the archness of Morrissey’s lyricism in The Smiths and the gender bending of David Bowie and the New York Dolls. It might also be a number of musos from some of Melbourne’s best known bands all taking the piss – if so, we’re certainly all laughing along with them.
