From the ‘things that make you go hmmm’ department comes the news that Iggy Pop was actually not only approached about being a judge on American Idol, he also gave the offer serious consideration. Pop revealed that producers contacted him and they had a few discussions before they settle on Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler for the gig.

“It didn’t go very far,” Pop says. “There were two phone calls…I wasn’t sure I was interested or available. They called me…I was curious and we spoke a couple times, and that was as far as that went. I don’t think I could’ve done the right job for them on that particular show. I think Steven (Tyler) does a really, really good job of it.” He also admits that he wasn’t a fan of the show when it started out, but he’s since changed his tune. (Most likely since he recently performed on the show).

He says that he “really hated” American Idol when it first hit TV screens, but that his opinion “changed over time and I came to respect certain things about it, bit by bit. I began to see if not the good in the format at least the good in the contestants, especially some of the final contestants.”
