It’s fair to say that when it comes to enjoying (and just as importantly paying) for music, subscription services are the future. Freedom to explore new and abundant selections of music, for a considerably small monthly fee means that new discovery has never been for music lovers.

Meet the ingenious GiggedIn platform, a service specifically designed for live gigs, which works like a Pandora for live music.

GiggedIn Infinite is a live music subscription service, which gives you ‘unlimited access’ to live music events on-demand for a monthly fee. The service recently launched in Sydney with a raft of gigs already being advertised.

GiggedIn Infinite works similar to the streaming platform. You pay a monthly fee of $35 and you can then browse for available shows and RSVP to the ones you want to attend.

To get a little more insight in the the platform, how it works and how it’s going to benefit both the artist and consumer, we caught up with the founder and CEO of GiggedIn, Ed Onggo.

What Giggedin Actually Is

“We’re a platform that has a mission to get more people out of their homes to discover more of the artists and events they’ll fall in love with.

GiggedIn Infinite is a live music subscription service that lets music fans turn up to a new show every night. For $35 a month, we give our members unlimited guest list access to attend new shows around Sydney and soon to be Australia.

We have up to 20 shows in Sydney to pick from each week and shows are headlined by popular local and international artists across genres such as indie rock, pop, electronic, hip hop, soul and more.”

Ed’s History

“I’ve always loved music. Listened to lots of underground hip hop and R&B growing up, actually have a pretty wide taste but am super into lots of electronic and house now.

Although I love music, I’m not actually from the industry, so I’ve just figured stuff out as I went along… It’s definitely been an interesting journey!

I used to actually work in marketing as a digital media planner and buyer for big brands in agencies before founding GiggedIn.”

How The Concept Came About

“We were originally founded as like a Kickstarter for gigs because of my frustration of not seeing lots of my favourite acts come to Sydney.

In our journey we discovered the really big problem with music events is the majority of them (approx 98%) don’t sell out.

[include_post id=”428369”]We’ve evolved a lot over the past few years but we’ve been fixated with finding ways to get people spending less time on the couch and more time out of the house experiencing events, for example we ran the She Who Rocks Support Slot Competition to drive awareness and give young bands a shot at opening for Baby Animals and The Superjesus which was a huge success (attracted over 30k votes) and was the number 1 driver of ticket sales for that tour.

GiggedIn Infinite is our latest and main offering now. Think about this – If you’re a subscriber of Infinite, you’re going to want to get the most value out of your subscription right? This means you’re going to be more inclined to get there and go to more shows. Our data shows this with our members getting out to more gigs than they normally would as well as discovering new artists and going to shows they normally wouldn’t buy tickets to.”

How It Benefits Punters

“We believe everyones life is better and richer when there’s more live music in it.
Infinite let’s you discover your next favourite artist. You never have to think about what to do on a weekend again. You get amazing value. Go to two shows in a month and you’ve already broken even!”

How It Benefits Artists

“There are far too many talented acts playing in front of half empty or fully empty rooms.
Infinite helps artists fill up rooms and do this with people who normally wouldn’t have gone otherwise.”

The Response So Far

“It ‘s been awesome! Our members love the service. For example, we’ve offered festival tickets and access to sold out shows before in the past. Why did we do this for our members even though we lost money in the process? Just because.”

How Bands Get Paid

“Our dealings often lie with the promoter and/or venue. They have their deals with the band which we stay out of.”

Venues Who Have Signed up to Giggedin

“We work a lot with Oxford Art Factory, Good God Small Club (now Plan B), Brighton Up Bar, The Vanguard, and have more in the works.”

How It Will Change The live music industry & community

“The challenge with getting more people to go to shows is that it competes with every other leisure activity anyone can do in their spare time (people can go to the movies, read a book, watch TV etc).

We are here to make it easy, and give more reasons for every day Aussies to get out there and enrich their lives through live music.

We want to change the live music industry and community by making it bigger and we reckon Infinite is the new model that’s going to help everyone and make that happen.”
