Recent visitors to Australia for the Soundwave Festival narrowly escaped having a fatal crowd crush on their hands in Brazil on Monday night. Playing a gig at the HSBC Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, singer Bruce Dickinson was powering his way through the first song of the gig when he noticed that a crowd barrier had broken loose at the front of the stage, leading fans to be pushed in a swarm in to the photographer’s pit.

Dickinson called a halt to the song, saying to the Portuguese speaking crowd “Hey guys, please calm down.” He further pleaded with them “Everyone, take a step backward. The fence broke and it’s dangerous. We do not want anyone to get hurt.”

After taking a 20 minute break Dickinson came back on stage to advise the crowd that the gig was cancelled and another one would be held in its place the following night. Check out footage of it here:
