The carefully curated lineup of world class musicians performing at Island Vibe Festival from the 25th – 28th October has just expanded substantially with the latest announcement from the festival. The likes of Katchafire, Jah9, Kaiit and Mad Professor are joining an already stacked lineup for the destination festival, also featuring Naâman, Chris Tamwoy and KingTide. The kaleidoscope of musical styles at the four-day event range from soul, folk, and world music, to drum ‘n bass, glitch hop and dancehall.

Held on Queensland’s beautiful North Stradbroke Island, it’s a festival unlike any others in the country, bringing punters an exciting and interactive program of music, arts and culture. It’s held by the beach, meaning you can literally take a dip in the ocean to cool off between sets. Carefully planned with the earth in mind, the festival boasts a huge number of environmental initiatives in it’s program, alongside roving performances, cabaret, an art exhibition, interactive workshops, kids activities, talks, eco-food and craft markets.

At the top of the bill you’ll find Katchafire, one of the world’s most prolific reggae acts, alongside the UK’s pioneer of Dub Music Mad Professor and the mystical Rastafarian Jah9 from Jamaica.

A number of local musicians, both veterans and first-timers on the festival stage, find themselves on the diverse musical lineup as well. PNG born R’n’B soulstress Kaiit, the well-dressed jazz punks with a passion for classic and neo soul Jazz Party, Brisbane’s kings of lovers rock and reggae Darky Roots, as well as the Northern Rivers first nations youth supergroup Indigenoise, standing united as indigenous youth and bringing the gift of music, traditional ceremony and dance.

To compliment their talented lineup, organisers of Island Vibe also emphasise their dedication to maintaining an environmentally sustainable and culturally aware event. Boasting a bike hire tent, bio-fuel generators, solar powered stage, composting toilets, and recycling centre, the festival provides great initiatives that foster a culture of sustainability. The program even includes a beach clean up and various workshops. They have also banned single-use plastic cups, straws, bags, tableware, and decided not to sell or distribute any single-use plastic water bottles.

There’s tonnes to do, heaps of fantastic music to listen to, and a wonderful community of like-minded individuals ready to enjoy the festival experience alongside. What more could you ask for?
