Sure we’ve heard about you before, but we think it’s time for Tone Deaf to get to know you a little better. Slip in to something comfortable while we put on some music, pour us a couple of drinks and turn the lights down low.

Who are you and what do you do in your act?

My name is Jane Badler and i’m best known for my portrayal of lizard queen Diana in the Sci Fi Series V and chanteuse. I’m channelling my inner temptress in my latest collaboration with Jesse Shepherd in the CD Tears Again.

‘Fess up. What records have you stolen from your parent’s record collection and why?

Best of Frank Sinatra
Bobby Darrin
Chubby Checker – Let’s Twist Again
What’s on heavy rotation on your iPod right now?

Grace Jones and John Legend – reliving their amazing concerts at [Melbourne’s] The Palais.

‘Home taping is killing the music business was the catch-cry of the record industry in the 1970s’, but it managed to survive until now. What do you think is the difference between mates taping copies of friend’s records back in the 80s and 90s and file sharing now?

Mates taping copies of friend’s records didn’t affect sales in the same way that file sharing does. The industry has shifted and money can no longer be made in the sale of CDs.

You must answer this question honestly or we steal your rider. What was the first gig you went to.?Where was it and what was the venue?

First gig I can remember was Jethro Tull at the Fillmore East in NYC back in the 70s.

What’s your favourite site to download music from and do you ever pay for it? Can we find any of your releases there?

I download almost everything from iTunes!

What artist made you want to pick up an instrument and/or sing?

James Taylor, Carole King, The Beatles, Barbra Streisand

Have you ever been arrested?

Hmm I was picked up for shoplifting when I was a teenager but never arrested.

Do you have any particular ritual before you go on stage, or even a lucky charm you take with you?

Yes a vodka cocktail! And time alone.

What’s been your most outrageous rider request?

I am very well behaved and never make outrageous demands. Except … a good bottle of vodka in the dressing room.

Because it’s more fun to do things together, which living Australian artist would you most like to collaborate with? Tell us why?

Nick Cave. His songs would suit me. The storytelling and theatricality and darkness. Keith Urban – great musician and very sexy – even if he is married to Nicole!

Right, let’s get really intimate. Tell us what releases you have that we can listen to with the lights down low, or even better, where we can see you play in person next.

‘Four Corners To My Bed’ is the perfect song for a night of seduction. All the songs on Tears Again have an element of seduction. Come see us play at the Toff In Town in Melbourne Saturday May 14th and in Sydney at The Basement on the 9th of June with Paul Grabowsky.
