Sure we’ve heard about you before, but we think it’s time for Tone Deaf to get to know you a little better. Slip in to something comfortable while we put on some music, pour us a couple of drinks and turn the lights down low. So, tell us about yourselves…Who are you – who who? We really wanna know….

Who are you and what do you do in your act?

Jantina Gardner & The Jaguars. The J is pronounced as a Y so it’s nice and confusing for everyone. I’m the singer and guitarist.

‘Fess up. What records have you stolen from your parents’ record collection and why?

The ones they didn’t burn to try and preserve my innocence? I managed to find some Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Billie Holliday, Bob Dylan… a whole lot of Jazz and blues. Rock was an evil word when I was little. Oh how things change!

What’s on heavy rotation on your iPod right now?

I shuffle the Ipod… I seem to get bored easily. But in saying that though I’ve been getting into the Yeah Yeah Yeahs again. I love all their albums. They’re fun and sexy and always put me in a good mood.

‘Home taping is killing the music business’ was the catch-cry of the record industry in the 1970s and 1980s, but it managed to survive until now. What do you think is the difference between mates taping copies of friend’s records back in the 80s and 90s and file sharing now?

I don’t see the difference actually. It makes people listen to more variety of music. Which I think is great. And if they like what they hear they’ll go see the band in concert. It’s more got to do with getting better gig deals for the bands. Because as you‘ve said it is a business and we bring in a lot of money for bars and pubs but don’t receive much of the cut. That’s my two cents… I’ll get off my soapbox now.

You must answer this question honestly or we steal your rider. What was the first gig you went to? Where was it and what was the venue?

Does Fat Cat count? That was an unbelievable concert and you got a show bag and everything! Alright the first concert I lined up to get tickets for was *cough* Mariah Carey. Enough said now can I have a drink?

What’s your favourite site to download music from and do you ever pay for it? Can we find any of your releases there?

Itunes. It’s very user friendly and yes you can find our EP “Exotic Matter” on there.

Have you ever been arrested?

As if I’d tell you that! Actually My Mum might read this so no.

Do you have any particular ritual before you go on stage, or even a lucky charm you take with you?

No Rituals but Jesse our Bass player enjoys his figurines. So there’s usually some kind of comic figurine or Jaguars on stage somewhere. He has a new one every gig … likes to keep us on our toes that Jesse.

Supposing you were to be playing sold out stadiums on your next tour, what outrageous rider requests would you submit?

Pet Jaguar that guards our band room from those Damn London Looters!

Because it’s more fun to do things together, which living Australian artist would you most like to collaborate with? Tell us why?

Either Tame Impala or The Presets. Tame Impala – for our stoner side and The presets – for our dancer side.

Right, let’s get really intimate. Tell us what releases you have that we can listen to with the lights down low, or even better, where we can see you play in person next. Naturally, don’t forget to give us the link to your Facebook fan page too.

We will be hitting the Cherry Bar Stage on Friday the 19th of August! With The Indian Skies and These patterns. This will be the launch night for our National Tour!! So it’s going to be a big one!
