Since he’s mates with Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, and since they have had fun acting in Pirates of the Caribbean, it’d make sense for Johnny Depp to want to take part in a film that had something to do with music icons of the 1960s. Hence, while it would be wise to take this announcement with a grain of salt, he latest pronouncement from the loose lips of former Oasis front man Liam Gallagher is that he wants to sign up Depp to play the role of Beatles publicist Derek Taylor in a biopic about the band.

It’s a year since Gallagher announced that he was making a film about the Fab Four, after buying the rights to a book by Beatles associate Richard DiLello entitled The Longest Cocktail Party: An Insider’s Diary Of The Beatles, Their Million Dollar Apple Empire And Its Wild Rise And Fall.

Now that the film is approaching the production stage, Liam is making pronouncements about who he thinks should play some of the best loved musicians in history and their associates. Now Gallagher has revealed that he hopes to persuade Depp, with whom he became acquainted during the Britpop heyday, to take on the role of Beatles publicist Derek Taylor.

Gallagher mouthed off saying, “Derek Taylor was a dude. He’s up there with Lennon. The film script is done. It’s gonna blow people’s minds, man. I’m just waiting to find out when we choose the actors. I want Johnny Depp to play Derek Taylor. It’s got Johnny Depp written all over it, man.”
