Geez, he’s just an elderly music legend who likes the odd joint to enjoy in his old age. Well, actually quite a few joints in his old age to be precise. After appearing to get off virtually scot free when a Texas prosecutor assigned to his most recent pot bust let him off on the proviso that he perform for the court, it appears that not everyone’s a fan of the country music legend.

Hudspeth County, Texas prosecutor Kit Bramblett, who is a fan of Nelson, suggested Nelson could pay less than $1,000 in a fine and sing his way to freedom. Unfortunately for pot grandpa Nelson,  Judge Dean-Walker has rejected Bramblett’s suggested punishment. According to the judge, “He’s supposed to file the charge he feels is appropriate, not what he feels he should do for his favourite singer. It is up to the judge to agree or not. If you’re not going to do it for the guy in the corner, why do it for a celebrity?”

Nelson was busted with three ounces of pot on his tour bus in November, but this seems like the only judge that wants to send the 79 year old to jail. According to the judge, prosecutor Bramblett had “made a habit of speaking with the press before anything has been resolved.” The judge wants Willie to pay a $500 fine at least, but says “At no point do I have to let him off. If Willie Nelson gets off with nothing, I’m not going to be part of it.”
