Back in 2016, Justin Bieber started selling repurposed Marilyn Manson shirts for some reason. Now, an interview with the shock-rocker reveals just what went down when the two eventually met.
In July of last year, Justin Bieber began selling a Marilyn Manson shirt as part of his tour merch. The shirt, which featured an image of Marilyn Manson from his Mechanical Animals era, featured writing on the back which read “Bigger Than Satan … Bieber”. While that was already pretty strange for a supposedly religious pop singer, most confusing was the fact that this monstrosity of pop culture sold for AUD$260, which people actually paid.
Now, in a new interview with Consequence Of Sound, Marilyn Manson has revealed how, despite the fact that the designer of the aforementioned shirt claimed to have received permission to use the rocker’s image, he “took all the proceeds from those shirts from him.”
“They didn’t even fight,” Manson said. “They were just like, ‘yea, we already know, we did wrong, so here’s the money.’”
According to Marilyn Manson, he eventually met Justin Bieber, who just so happened to be sporting the contentious merchandise at the time. “He was [already] wearing the shirt that had his name on my shirt,” Manson said. “And he said to me, ‘I made you relevant again.’ Bad mistake to say that to me.”
The rocker also didn’t seem to be a fan of Justin Bieber in general, stating “He was a real piece of shit in the way he had the arrogance to say that,” he recalled. “He was a real touchy-feely guy, too, like, ‘yo yo bro!’ and touches you when he’s talking. I’m like, you need to stand down, you’re dick height on me, ok? (laughs) Alright? So stand down, son.”
Manson claims he attempted to get some form of revenge on Justin Bieber by playing a prank of sorts on the young pop star. “The next day I told him I’d be at his soundcheck at Staples Center to do ‘Beautiful People’,” Manson said. He also stated that Bieber claimed the shirt “was his idea”, at which point Manson noted that he never intended to follow up on his offer to play with Bieber, stating that “he believed that I’d show up, because he was that stupid.”
While we can’t even begin to speculate what a collaboration between Marilyn Manson and Justin Bieber would sound like, we’re sort of glad that it never happened.
More recently though, Marilyn Manson has just announced the details of his tenth studio record, Heaven Upside Down, which is set to be released in October.
