Kanye West has let his creative goals slip once again, noting to an interviewer that he wants to release one album a week for an entire year.

Back in April, we received the news that Kanye West had plans to release a couple of new albums in June. One was set to be a solo album, while the other was to be a collaborative record with Kid Cudi. As it turned out, we also received three extra albums produced by West, including Pusha T’s Daytona, Nas’ Nasir, and Teyana Taylor’s K.T.S.E., proving that Kanye is undoubtedly one of the most prolific artists out there in 2018.

However, it appears that he now wants to up the ante and keep that level workflow up for an entire year.

Recently, Kanye West spoke to The New York Times’s Jon Caramanica for an interview which an interview which saw the hip-hop artist touch on a number of topics, including his mental health, ambitions, and his recent controversial comments about slavery.

As Pitchfork notes though, Caramanica opened up about this interview in his “Popcast”, which saw him discussing further comments that Kanye made that didn’t make it to print. “He told me at one point he wants to make 52 records in 52 weeks,” Caramanica explained. “Take that for what you will.”

As Pitchfork also notes, there have been a number of rumours that Kanye has a lot more music up his sleeves, with talk of a joint album with Chance The Rapper being floated, while collaborator Francis & The Lights notes he had “heard rumblings” of more music to come.

Of course, this could all end up a little bit like Sufjan Stevens’ ’50 States Project’, which saw the artist express his desire to make one record for each of the 50 US states. After just two (Michigan and Come On Feel The Illinoise, if you were wondering), Stevens admitted it was a publicity stunt, and that he had no plans to do any more.

Knowing Kanye though, he seems so dedicated to his craft that even if his comments are publicity stunt, he’d probably make 52 records to surprise us – just for the hell of it.

Whatever the case, it looks like Yeezy season is truly approaching.
