“Music industry sources” have revealed The Killers are set to perform the coveted AFL Grand Final – you know the one that Meatloaf shat all over for a reported $600K in 2015? – this September.

That’s according to Fox Sports, who have said the band will mark their first return to Australia since their appearance at 2013’s Big Day Out for the football calendar highlight – and they won’t be playing any additional Australian shows apparently.

Naturally, it’s a publicity push for the Las Vegas rockers, who plan to release their follow-up to 2012 studio LP Battle Born just 10 days before the AFL’s showcase event on September 30.

Meanwhile, official spokespeople are also tight-lipped about who’s performing at the NRL Grand Final on October 1. But, and again it’s Fox Sports coming in with the goods, it’s understood “Pearl Jam is at the top of the queue to play.”

Let’s hope The Killers’ performance sits in line with past grand final stalwarts like Sting, Ed Sheeran, Chris Isaak, Tom Jones, Ellie Goulding, Vance Joy and Paul Kelly, and not the car crash that was Meatloaf’s offering.
